Calling all U of I designers!

When I joined the SMB team in April as a Strategic Design Specialist, I was not only new to the team, I was new to the U of I. As I’ve been able to meet some other designers, I discovered that there really isn’t a design community on campus that meets regularly to share ideas and feedback. So let’s remedy that! 

We’re going to start by reviving a designer listserv that was active on campus until 2013. If you’d like to be added to the list, please email me at mf31@illinois.edu. This is a great place for all of us to share tips and ask questions, or even to put some of your work out there for quick feedback. I’ll also share information about the work our office is doing to update the Brand Standards and would love for us to have some conversation around ways to implement the updated standards on a unit level. 

In the future, I’ll also be offering some workshops with our team’s other new designer, Bryan Lin, to go through different aspects of the University Brand Standards and answer questions. Eventually we also want to host some events where we can mix and mingle. 

Ultimately, this group belongs to all of us, and it will be whatever we make it. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please reach out!
